Waldron, who became the university’s seventh president in 2010, will be retiring at the end of the 2017 – 2018 academic year.
The university’s board of trustees has already launched a national search for a new president.
“I will turn 70 years old in September 2018 and have had the great honor of being an academic administrator for 20 years,” Waldron said in a statement released by the university. “The last seven years at William Paterson University have been the best of my career. We have accomplished so much, and I hope that the advances we made together are of lasting benefit to the students we serve.”
Under Waldron’s leadership, the university has increased academic offerings by launching a doctor of psychology program, a fully online undergraduate degree completion program, as well as new bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. During her tenure, the school has also increased offerings for student participation in civic engagement opportunity.
