Jasmine Thompson, 20, was brought into the Jail on Sept. 12 after being arrested and charged with simple assault. She quickly accepted probation and was “cleared for release on that charge by the judiciary on the evening of September 25th,” said Ben Feldman, the sheriff’s spokesman.
However, Feldman said, she also was facing a strong-armed robbery charge for forcibly taking a teenager’s backpack. She should’ve remained in custody, he said.
The error was eventually discovered and investigators from McGuire’s department picked her up in Paterson, at the intersection of Lyons Ave & Rosa Parks Boulevard, at 5:30 last Friday night.
“As soon as we released the mistake, we mobilized the detective squad, who went out and tracked her down,” Feldman said.
Feldman said McGuire has ordered an internal investigation to determine what happened.
