Officer Kyle Vergano caught up to and stopped Joshua B. Luciani, 41, following a midnight report Monday of a speeding driver drifting acros lanes at Black Oak and Hamburg turnpikes, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Joined by backups, Luciani "smelled a strong odor of alcohol" on Luciani, who also had bloodshot eyes and was fumbling with his hands, the capain said.

Luciani failed a field test, then "grew agitated and belligerent. accusing the officers of being scumbags who supported Donald Trump, among other irrational ramblings," Martin said.

Taken into custody, Luciania was found carrying 17 assorted prescription drugs, the captain said.

"Throughout the process, Luciani experienced severe mood swings, ranging from angry outbursts to calmness to disorderly activity," Martin said. "He was released to a responsible adult and his auto was impounded."

He was given a court date to answer summonses for DWI, illegal drug possession, careless driving and speeding.
