Wayne PD: Dozens Of Beer-Drinking Teens Trash Townhouse, One Fights Police

WAYNE, N.J. -- Wayne police found a townhouse trashed by dozens of beer-drinking juveniles, one of whom had to be subdued after he began fighting with officers, authorities said.

The homeowner -- who told police she was unaware of a party being held at her home -- took custody of her son at the hospital.

Fifty or so teens fled, "leaving beer cans scattered in the backyard and on neighbor’s property," as officers responded to a complaint of teens congregating and open-air drug sales at the Heritage Manor housing complex late Saturday, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Lt. Robert Franco and Officer Luis Oliveira found beer cans strewn on the floor of the kitchen, chairs overturned and a large hole punched through the sheetrock of a home -- along with a juvenile passed out on the floor, he said.

When they roused him, Martin said, the teen "began kicking his feet and swinging closed fists."

He continued struggling after being handcuffed and was taken by a Wayne Volunteer First Aid Squad ambulance to Chilton Memorial Hospital for treatment, the captain said.

The homeowner -- who said she was unaware of a party being held at her home -- took custody of her son at the hospital, Martin said.

Meanwhile, nine sets of parents were summoned to retrieve their children from the residence, he said.

Juvenile detectives were investigating and expected to sign delinquency complaints, the captain said.
