Detectives Kenneth Hart and Brendan Rigler stopped the red 2002 Saturn for driving within unsafe distances of others on southbound Route 23 Tuesday afternoon, Capt. Laurence W. Martin said.

While speaking with the driver, 30-year-old Andrew Saldutti of Towaco, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana -- which, it turned out, had been packaged in clear plastic bags, Martin said.

Saldutti was processed and released pending a court hearing on drug-related charges.
