Richard Liccardo, 28, of Ringwood assaulted a woman he’d been dating, then turned the knife and a lamp on household members who tried to stop him around 2 a.m. July 23, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
Moments later, he went after responding officer John Galinus, who shot Liccardo, she said.
Valdes’s Shooting Response Team conducted canvassed the neighborhood, talked to civilians and police, reviewed video footage and 911 and radio transmissions, while producing ballistic and other evidence, as well as medical records, the prosecutor said.
Grand jurors found the shooting justified after reviewing the evidence, she said.
A separate grand jury indicted Liccardo on 10 counts, including various charges of aggravated assault against Galinus and others and weapons offenses, the prosecutor said.
Liccardo remained held on $3 million in the Passaic County Jail following an arraignment Tuesday.
