The Valero attendant told police a while man with a mask covering all but his eyes confronted him in his booth while "brandishing a black handgun with a silver tip” around 2:50 a.m. May 3.
The robber "demanded all the money," so the attendant gave him all he had, Capt. Laurence W. Martin said.
“Don’t look at me," the attendant said the robber told him while chambering a round in the gun.
He then demanded more money, so the attendant said he gave him what was in the register.
The bandit then ran north through the parking lot toward a foot path between the Shell Station and the Burger King, Martin said.
The attendant, meanwhile, ran into the station's 7-Eleven and called police, he said.
He described the robber as 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5, with a heavyset build, wearing a dark blue hoodie with blue jeans and the mask.
Martin asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call Detective Craig McIntyre at (973) 633-3541.
"We need to get this desperate person off the streets before he hurts someone," the captain said.
