They also released video of a car they believe was used during the July burglary near Public School No. 1 (click above).
The apparent passerby sought by police "appears to be middle-aged, either black or Hispanic, wearing green work pants and work boots," Lt. Robert Bracken said Monday morning. "He also has a receding hairline and is wearing eyeglasses.
"He is being considered a witness at this time."
In the separate vehicle video, Bracken said, "the camera is motion-activated, so the time skips a bit. The vehicle in question comes into view at 12:37 and is there for several minutes.
"We believe [it] is a dark-colored 2013-2014 Nissan Altima," he said.
"As you can see in the video, it had heavy rear end damage on the passenger side," the lieutenant said. "There is a possibility that this vehicle was in the process of being repaired at a local auto body shop and that it was used during this period of time in the commission of the residential burglary."
Anyone who recognizes the car or the man, or has information that can help the burglary investigation, is asked to contact Clifton detectives: (973) 470-5908.
"Callers can remain anonymous," Bracken said.
