Najir Franklin was taken into custody without incident at a relative's apartment Wednesday night by members of the Marshals' Fugitive Task Force and local police from Wilmington, N.C., Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

He was being held pending extradition to New Jersey to face murder charges in the Sept. 13 death of 21-year-old Sean Brittingham outside a vacant building in the 100 block of Hamilton Avenue.

Brittingham died in the operating room at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Speziale said.

Detectives Ralph Fermin and Kelvin Matos, along with Detective Paul Wefing of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, worked the case locally.
