Fort Lee Detective Cory Horton spotted a man get out of a car and walk into the apartment at Lemoine and Wilson avenues around 1:30 yesterday afternoon, Chief Keith Bendul said.
Moments later, the man emerged carrying two white plastic bags, got into the car and drove off with a woman who’d been waiting for him, Bendul said.
Horton waited until the car cleared the high school area and stopped it several blocks away.
The bags contained two ounces of marijuana, the chief said.
Horton arrested the man, identified as 35-year-old Alex Hernandez of Clifton, while letting the woman go.
He then alerted his partner, Detective Timothy Cullen, to hit the basement.
Cullen, assisted by Lt. Ken Porrino, Detective Robert Eager and Cullen smalled “a strong odor of raw marijuana inside,” Bendul said.
A second man, identified as Christian Hernandez, 25, consented to a search of his room, which the chief said turned up three pounds of pot, bagging materials, a digital scale and more than $2,000 cash.
He, too, was arrested.
Both Hernandezes were being held on $25,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail on possession with intent charges within 1,000 feet of the high school and 500 feet of Palisades State Park.
