Detective Edward Kazmierczak recognized Tyrone Goins of Edgewater and began following their Lincoln LS around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wilson said this afternoon.
After parking on Summit Avenue, one of the two tossed a gold bracelet out of the car, the chief said.
Kazmierczak waited for fellow Detective Kevin Brennan. Both approached the sedan and saw the booty in clear view in the back seat, Wilson said.
Goins, who turned 24 last week, and fellow occupant Jamar Travis, 27, of Paterson also had gloves and ski masks, he said.
The detectives took both into custody and began investigating, the chief said. Soon after notifying area towns, they learned of the Fair Lawn break-in, he said.
The detectives obtained a search warrant for the car and found additional items, some of which were reported stolen from a residence in Paramus on Monday, Wilson said.
Goins and Travis were being held on $500,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail on charges out of Teaneck and Fair Lawn for receiving stolen property, concealing evidence, possession of burglary tools.
Travis also was charged with hindering apprehension for “providing false information regarding his identity to the officers on scene,” Wilson said.
