Surprise police drills under way in North Jersey

Call it a “flash mob” of a different kind: We’re not going to know exactly where and when, but authorities say uniformed New Jersey State and local police will be popping up suddenly as part of a five-day drill designed to test the coordination of various agencies’ response to emergencies.

The affected areas: Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Morris, Union and Middlesex counties.

The New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management are conducting the drill, in which “there will be an increase in uniformed New Jersey State Police and local personnel as well as emergency vehicles/resources,” said the OEM’s Nicholas Morici.

“This is not a cause for alarm and no traffic delays are expected,” Morici emphasized. “This is only a DRILL.”
