Officers Edward Egan and Brian Rypkema tried to pull over 27-year-old Michael T. Papagian of Fair Lawn around 3 a.m. yesterday after seeing the Suzuki GSX on Fair Lawn Avenue riding alongside them.
A similar motorcycle was reported stolen on Thursday, and they wanted to check things out.
However, Papagian “took off at a high speed when the officers activated their emergency lights and fled northbound on Rt 208,” Sgt. Richrd Schultz said.
A chase ended on Lincoln Avenue near Harristown Road in Hawthorne.
“While inspecting the motorcycle, the officers discovered that Papagian had rigged a switch to the license plate that when activated would flip the plate up and prevent it from being seen, ala ‘James Bond’,” Schultz said.

Papagian, formerly of Harrington Park, was being held on $20,000 at the Bergen County Jail, charged with eluding, hindering apprehension and several motor vehicle violations.
He’s due in Fair Lawn Municipal Court on Wednesday.
