Officer Javier Vega stopped the 2008 Lexus RX for blowing a stop sign just after 10:15 p.m. Friday at North 6th Street and Brown Avenue, Detective Walter Richmond told Daily Voice.
The driver, an “extremely nervous” Jonathan Vasquez, 28, told backup Officer Brian Koppenal that he smelled of marijuana because he was carrying three small baggies of the drug, Richmond said.
Moments later, he said, the officers found two white cardboard boxes that held 22 clear, hard plastic containers filled with pot, as well as a black backpack that held 100 small, pink ziplocking baggies, 86 more small, yellow ziplocking baggies, a scale and the suspect drug proceeds wrapped in red rubber bands.
Police charged Vasquez with various drug offenses and issued him four traffic summonses – all returnable in Central Judicial Processing Court on Feb. 7.
