Dionte Robinson pointed the gun at the officers as they approached him just after 5 p.m. Wednesday on North 5th Street between Clinton and Jefferson streets, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

“Two of the officers discharged their department-issued handguns,” Valdes said, adding that there was “no immediate indication of injuries to either police or civilians.”

Police arrested Robinson and seized the gun, which had a defaced serial number, the prosecutor said.

Robinson was charged with aggravated assault and a variety of weapons offenses, she said.

Valdes said her Shooting Response Team was activated, as required by directives by the state Attorney General.

“The investigation in this matter, including the use of force by police, remains ongoing,” she said.
