Prosecutor: Clifton City Employee Steals $2,500 From Dead Man

CLIFTON, N.J. – A Clifton city employee swiped $2,500 in Social Security money from a dead man’s account to buy herself things, authorities charged.

Jacklyn Delillo, 31, of Clifton, was arrested on identity theft charges Wednesday by members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Financial Crimes Unit, assisted by the Social Security Administration Inspector General’s Office, authorities said.

Delillo worked at the Clifton Senior Citizens Center, where befriended the elderly victim.

After he died, “Social Security checks continued to be deposited into [his] bank account,” Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

“Delillo used the decedent’s debit card to make purchases after his death, utilizing Social Security funds,” the prosecutor said.

Delillo -- who'd worked for the city for about a year at a $21,726 annual salary -- was released pending on Oct. 20 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson.
