The discovery was the Bergen County Police Department Bomb Squad’s second false alarm of the day. The first, involving a box wrapped in black tape, was found in front of Congregation Beth Sholom temple in Teaneck this morning and contained balloons and rubber bands.
The unattended black carry-on suitcase found along a fence line of the high school field prompted the closure of area roadways for nearly an hour this afternoon while the bomb squad examined it. Inside they found plastic weapons, batteries and assorted other toy items.
Using the ID on the case’s tag, police went to the boy’s house and quickly discovered there was no cause for alarm.
The Bergen County PD and county Sheriff’s Office assisted in maintaining the perimeter and steering traffic clear.
Mutual aid came from Hawthorne, Ridgewood, and Fair Lawn.
