Witnesses pointed Officers Andres Brea and Joseph Rodriguez III to 23-year-old Angel J. Green-Valentin as he stood at the corner of Ryerson and Crosby Avenue holding a duffel bag Saturday afternoon, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
Seeing them, Green-Valentin ran through a yard and jump a fence "with the officers in close pursuit never losing sight of the suspect and the duffel bag," Speziale said.
At one point, he dropped the bag and continued running towards Preakness Avenue, the director said.
Brea scopped up the bag while Officer Francesco Scorpo continued chasing Green-Valentin, he said.
Inside the blue back was a black, CAI George AK-style .39mm, with a high-capacity magagine loaded with 55 rounds of ammunition, Speziale said.
Moments later, Rodriguez and Sgt. Kelly Hemming caught up to Green-Valentin, who'd climbed a low roof on Preakness Avenue (see photo above), Speziale said.
He surrendered and climbed down at that point, the director said.
Green-Valentin was charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest and various weapons counts.
