Medics responded and other area companies remained on alert in case they were needed.
The sudden flames immediately sent up a column of black smoke from the 500 block of River Street just before 6 o’clock.
City firefighters said they will finally be able to douse all remaining clutches of flame once the buildings are demolished. They were awaiting a crew.
They continued to pour water, hitting as many hot pockets as possible while keeping things tamped until then.
Two firefighters and a half dozen or so residents were treated for minor injuries in yesterday’s blaze, authorities said. Nearly a dozen dogs were rescued, as well.
The Red Cross said it relocated nearly three dozen people.
