Police stopped pursuing Owen Palmer 29, after trying to pull him over at 11th Avenue and East 29th Street around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief William Fraher said in a joint statement.
Four blocks later, Palmer blew a stop sign at 14th Avenue and East 30th Street and the X5 slammed into the side of a 2002 Kia Sedona, they said.
The minivan driver, 77-year-old city resident Juan Piscoya, sustained minor injuries, authorities said.
However, passenger Natalia Piscoya, also of Paterson, had a fractured collarbone and ribs, they said.
Palmer sustained neck fractures, they added.
All were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson.
Palmer was charged with eluding, assault by auto causing serious bodily injury – also while unlicensed – and ordered held on $50,000 bail.
A court date will be set once he’s released from the hospital, authorities said.
