The non-fatal shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 4 on East 42nd Street "when shots were fired at a large gathering" and three men were struck, Police Director Jerry Speziale said Saturday night.
Ceasfire Unit Detectives Edgar Torres of the Paterson police and Michael Boone of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office identified Eric Polanco, 22, as the alleged gunman and obtained an arrest warrant charging him with attempted murder and weapons offenses, Speziale said.
They "made several attempts to locate Polanco at numerous locations within and outside of Paterson, with negative results," the director said.
On Saturday, a tipster led them to a Park Avenue residence, were they set up surveillance, Speziale said.
At one point, Polanco answered the door, he said.
The detectives moved in and Polanceo retreated inside, with them right behind, Speziale said.
Polanco "was attempting to secrete himself inside the bathroom," he said.
He was being held at city police headquarters pending bail.
