Passaic Sheriff's Drug Detectives Get Their Man After Escape

PATERSON, N.J. -- Passaic County Sheriff narcotics detectives on Saturday tracked down an accused drug dealer who gave them the slip days earlier and charged him with having nearly 400 folds of heroin the first time and 21 bags of crack cocaine the second.

Investigators tipped off that Stephon Harris, 31, was in the area of Park Avenue and 22nd Street found him sitting on the stopp of a local business, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said Sunday.

He was carrying the crack, worth about $3,850, the sheriff said.

The detectives has stopped him a block away Wednesday night after seeing him make a sale on his bicycles, Bernik said.

Harris ditched the bike and the heroin and fled through an apartment building several backyards before squad members lost sight of him, escaping capture, he said.

A judge ordered Harris held on $30,000 bail i the Passaic County Jail on a variety of drug offenses.
