Tipped off by an employee, K-9 Officer Scott Philips found 25-year-old Nicholas Bosna with a syringe in his pocket and drug paraphernalia on the floor next to him Saturday night in the bathroom of the shop at Market Street and Memorial Drive, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.
Bosna resisted arrest, but the two good Samaritans jumped in and ended the struggle, he said.
It took several hours to identify Bosna, who was carrying three envelopes of heroin, the sheriff said.
Philips was later treated at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released, the sheriff said.
Bosna, meanwhile, was jailed on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, hindering and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
He also had several outstanding warrants out of Atlantic City for resisting arrest, eluding and theft, Berdnik said.
