“God told him to be here,” the woman told police Zakiy I. Muhammad said when she discovered him reclining in a seat in the parking lot of the Wyckoff YMCA — wearing the vehicle owner’s slippers — around 11 p.m.
Muhammad “initially gave the officers a fictitious name and address and continued to state that he had been sent there by God,” Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said this morning.
“He resisted arrest to the point where the officers had to physically restrain him on the bus,” the chief said.
Muhammad was being held on $3,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with auto burglary, resisting arrest and hindering by providing false information.
The car apparently had been left unlocked, Fox said.
