She spared two others who complied with her directive not to collect full-time health benefits or stipends.
“I have previously given you an opportunity to rescind your stipend and benefits or resign and you have refused to do either,” Donovan wrote to the commissioners in letters today.
“Based upon your continued refusal to comply with my vetoes of your stipend and benefits,” she added, “you are hereby dismissed immediately.
“Your actions fail to honor your oath of office and are contrary to my administration’s efforts to promote sound fiscal policy which I have pledged to the taxpayers of the County of Bergen.”
Donovan has steadfastedly maintained she is on solid ground, nothing that her vetoes of authority minutes have been upheld by the New Jersey Division of Local Government Services.
Along with Chairman William F. Dator and Vice-Chairman Michael Kasparian, Donovan canned commissioners Brian Chewcaskie, Peter Dachnowicz, Frank Kelaher, Marion Plumley and Jason T. Shafron.
Newly appointed Commissioners Elizabeth Salazer and Kenneth Gabbert weren’t included, she said, becauses they “have not taken stipends or received health benefits.”
Donovan said she was forwarding the nominations of replacement commissioners to the Board of Freeholders and will ask the board to confirm them immediately.
