Officer Garrell Middleton was working the traffic detail at Broad Street site near Route 19 Wednesday when he spotted the cycle -- without a license plate -- darting in and out of the cones, Lt. Robert Bracken told Daily Voice.
Middleton tried stopping him, but the rider took off, leading a pursuit onto Colfax Avenue toward Clifton Avenue, he said.
The cyclist, identified as 29-year-old body builder Douglas Lanzo, "continued to drive recklessly, failing to obey traffic control devices," Bracken said.
The pursuit continued into the area of Elm Street and Cloverdale Road, where Lanzo surrendered.
Lanzo, who has participated in professional body-building competitions, was charged with eluding, resisting arrest and driving under the influence. Police also issued various summonses, including being DUI in a school zone, Bracken noted.
