Authorities initially didn’t believe the death of the New Milford man was suspicious, Fair Lawn Police Lt. Derek Bastinck told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. The Bergen County Medical Examiner was to conduct an autopsy tomorrow.
The call came in around 12:20 p.m. after a homeowner at the end of Hamlin Court spotted the body washed up against riverbank debris.
Fair Lawn detectives requested the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and the medical examiner. County emergency workers stepped in from shore, put the body in a basket and carried it up the riverbank.
The discovery came more than four hours after another body was found in the Passaic River in Newark this morning.
