All five were charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses.
Things got physical outside the party on lower Main Street between Broadway and Memorial Drive around 4 a.m. Saturday, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
"Weapons were produced, shots were fired, and the victim was struck," he said.
The 23-year-old victim grazed by a bullet in the head was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center and released, Speziale said.
Soon after, Detective Sgt. Anthony Hyatt and Detectives Christopher Ravallese and Joehan Suarez of the city Ceasefire Unit identified five suspects.
Those arrested and charged:
- Carlos Suarez-Montoya, 30, of Lodi;
- Luis Gervasi, 23, of Clifton;
- Jorge Nakano, 38, of Paterson;
- Adolfo Zuloaga, 22, of Passaic;
- Carlos Hinostroza, 39, of Newark.
Anyone with information that could help the ongoing investigation was asked to contact the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
