Gainey was born and raised in Ithaca, N.Y. A registered nurse, she worked at Cornell University for many years. She also was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Ridgewood.
She is survived by her children Jeffrey Leo Gainey and wife Sue of South Bend, Ind., Christine Ann Gainey of Ridgewood, Rosemary Gainey of Wayne, and Barry James Gainey and wife Mary Ellen of Ridgewood; grandchildren Elizabeth Colombo, Molly, Patrick and Dylan Gainey and Thomas and Jack Gainey; great-grandchildren Brianna Josephine and Aubrey Rose Gainey.
Gainey was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Patrick Gainey. and her sister, Rita Russell..
Funeral services will be private with arrangements through Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood.
