WAYNE, N.J. — Members of the Wayne community spent the weeks and months leading up to the November election debating the need for full-day kindergarten in the district.
Supporters rallied to promote the benefits of full-day kindergarten. However, voters ultimately rejected the measure during November's election.
The proponents of additional class time said it would greatly benefit students. They also pointed out Wayne was the only district in Passaic County not to have full-day kindergarten.
The school district released a survey to parents after the vote to assess other ways to "accommodate parents while recognizing the will of the voters."
The survey studied a tuition-based program that would add more class time for young students.
Following the election, some residents said poll workers tried to influence voters to cast their ballots against full-day kindergarten.
Tracy McNie Rozansky, an active supporter of full-day kindergarten, said the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will be reviewing the accusations against poll workers some time in early 2016.
