Paramus' First Female Cub Scout Leads By Example
No one in Katie Sheridan's family was all that surprised when the 7-year-old announced she wanted to be a Cub Scout. The Paramus second grader has been tagging along to Boy Scout meetings for the past two years with her older brother Jimmy, and the only thing keeping her from joining herself was the "boys only" rule. Last summer, Paramus den leaders voted to allow girls into the local Cub Scouts packs -- making Katie the first girl in the borough. "Being a Cub Scout makes me feel special and proud," said Katie of Pack 245. Boy Scouts of America last year announced it would be droppi…

Jing-A Da Bells: Legendary Italian Christmas Song Has Sequel, Thanks To WTP Music Teacher
A decades-old Christmas tune made famous by an Italian-American singer from Lyndhurst now has a big, brassy sequel that aims to "jing-a da bells" all the way. The original “Dominick the Donkey” was a novelty number recorded nearly 60 years ago by Lou Monte, a Bronx-born vocalist named Luigi Scaglione who grew up in Lyndhurst. Monte, who died in 1989, didn’t occupy the rarefied airwaves of Sinatra, Dean Martin or Connie Francis. But he did became a household name in several New Jersey neighborhoods – and across the U.S. – with the song “Pepino the Italian Mouse.” Now comes the sequel t…
