So if someone is shy or doesn’t have the time or make it to classes she teaches at KG Divine Wellness and Beauty in North Haledon, Wozney, 24, makes herself available via Skype.
“It just came to my attention that it was something I could do to reach anyone, anywhere, because I have a lot family members that don’t live close enough to classes and I have friends now around the world from my schooling, and I just figured it was a way to reach more people, and at their convenience,” said Wozney. “So if they wanted to do it at 2 o’clock, we could do it at 2 o’clock and in their comfort zone. Because a lot of people are unsure, they’ve never done it before, so on and so forth. So the Skype is a way to keep them in their comfort zone and work around their schedule and maybe lead them to go to a public class one day.”
A multi-sport athlete in high school who was injured on multiple occasions, Wozney has been practicing yoga for nearly seven years and said it’s had a tremendously positive impact on her.
“For a while I was looking into getting my teacher training certificate, and I knew that I wanted to go away because I learned that there were schools all over the world,” Wozney said. “I just came across one in Maui and fell in love with it and went out there. I packed up my stuff and learned all about yoga."
The course consisted of eight hours of training, six days a week for a little less than a month, after which she became a 200-hour registered yoga teacher.
Wozney, who also goes to schools, nonprofits and local gyms on request, said she’s been surprised by the amount of interest she’s gotten for the Skype classes since it started more than a month ago, though she didn't have a total number Skype participants. “It’s more popular than I thought it would be,” she said.
People can set up classes either via mauiyogawg@gmail.com or through messaging her through the Maui Yoga With Gianna Facebook page.
Before Wozney decided to become a professional yoga instructor, she planned on going into speech pathology, earned a linguistics degree from Montclair State University.
After that, “I was a frantic college graduate who didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, so I decided to go for yoga, because it changed my life so much,” she said. “So I figured I want to help people change theirs.”
