Martin Vybihal has been hired to be in charge of operating the course, according to an announcement. The action came at Tuesday's meeting of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Vybihal is a Class “A” PGA member with 29 years of experience as a golf professional at public and private golf courses across the country, said a release.

He has a distinguished playing career, including being voted one of the top ten New Jersey Junior Golfers of the Century in 2000.

A graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, Vybihal was a four-year letterman and team captain on the golf team in 1981-82.

Fifteen golf professionals were interviewed for the job, said Passaic County Freeholder Director Theodore "TJ" Best.

"Marty came out on top as the golf professional most likely to bring Preakness Valley Golf Course to the next level in service and operations in New Jersey."

“I know we are going to see changes on day one with a professional and profitable operation that all Passaic County residents can be proud to call their home course. Marty’s depth of experience is going to transform the golf experience offered at Preakness Valley for the better in the months and years to come.”

The public golf course was established in 1982. It has undergone a transformation in the last 10 years, following a multi-million dollar investment from the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Upgrades include an installation of new tee boxes, irrigation and greens drainage systems, and new cart paths.

Last year there were approximately 4,000 registered members.

“I am excited to be joining the County of Passaic and Preakness Valley Golf Course team to highlight this fantastic golf facility and bring new members and golfers to Wayne to see the great improvements that have been made over the last ten years,” said Vybihal.

“I am going to be reaching out to golfers of all ages about new programming, clinics, and tournaments to that will be offered at Preakness Valley in the coming year."
