Under Christie’s plan, the number of treatment beds throughout the state available for the treatment of behavioral health and substance abuse disorders will increase by 40 percent, a gain of 864 beds.
The additional beds will serve Passaic County, as well as Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Sussex and Warren counties.
“Opioid addiction is a public health crisis and we must take aggressive action to get this crisis under control and save lives,” Christie said in a statement.
The New Jersey Department of Health has filed a Certificate of Need (CN) for the new beds. The Department will give priority consideration to providers that submit applications that include course of action such as: a regional approach to care; the provision of in-patient and out-patient services; and innovative treatment options.
