Body Of Missing Man, 79, Recovered From Lake Hopatcong, Prosecutor Says The body of a 79-year-old man who disappeared in Lake Hopatcong was recovered Monday morning, June 24, authorities said. Authorities were called to the lake in Roxbury Saturday, June 22 around 7:30 p.m., when the Landing man, who has not been identified, went in but did not emerge, as previously reported by Daily Voice. A massive search effort was launched but suspended overnight, authorities said. Body Of Suicidal Woman Recovered From North Jersey Dam, Police Say The body of an 18-year-old woman was recovered from the Monksville Dam in what authorities have deemed a suicide. The woman's backpack was initially called in as a suspicious package on Oct. 29 around 7:45 p.m., Ringwood police said. Further investigation revealed that the backpack was left by a woman who had jumped over the barrier on the south side of the dam.  The Pompton Lakes resident's body was recovered Nov. 3 around 6 p.m., and turned over to the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner's Office, local police said. Victim Rescued, Hospitalized After Jet Ski Goes Up In Flames, Explodes On Lake Hopatcong A jet skier was rescued and hospitalized after the vessel went up in flames and exploded on Lake Hopatcong Sunday night, authorities said. Hopatcong Police responded to the Byram Cove area of the lake and worked alongside the NJSP Marine Unit to rescue the victim around 7:20 p.m., Lt. Michael O’Shea told Daily Voice. Officers were told by witnesses at the scene that the victim’s jet ski had exploded, O’Shea said. The victim was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
