Samantha Viscardi, 22, was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed near Green Pond Road on Feb. 2, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Rockaway Police Chief Martin McPardland, Jr. said in a joint release.

The passenger in the vehicle was critically injured after Viscardi's vehicle went into a guardrail, closing the area around 4:30 p.m., according to multiple reports.

Viscardi was initially charged with assault by auto but that was upgraded to reckless vehicular homicide after the passenger died, Knapp said.

She is an employee of BMW Morristown and a Roxbury native, according to her Facebook profile.
