New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency beginning Sunday morning, Jan. 19, right as the National Weather Service released a brand-new snowfall forecast for the winter storm heading toward the region.

The storm will begin with scattered showers and a low of 26 degrees Saturday night, Jan. 18, the NWS said. Traffic Stop Turns Up Firearm In Morris County: Police
A 36-year-old Morris County man was arrested and charged with improperly transporting a firearm in Denville on Saturday, Jan. 11, authorities said.
At 7:42 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near the 7-Eleven at 45 W Main St., Denville police said. Officers discovered the driver, Daniel Schmidt, a Mountain Lakes resident, was improperly transporting a firearm, police said.
Schmidt was ultimately arrested and transported back to Denville Police headquarters for processing, police said. He was charged with a weapons transportation violation and released pending a court date, police said.

The first significant snowstorm of 2025 is expected to hit the region Sunday night, Jan 5, bringing up to 8 inches of snow to parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service.

A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday, Dec. 6 after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting and robbing a woman in Morristown in 2022.
