Dominick P. DeNegri was hit by separate vehicles heading westbound -- both of which kept driving -- on Route 78 near milepost 55.4 after he got out of his vehicle around 3:30 a.m., New Jersey State Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

The incident is under investigation, Goez said.

More than $2,100 had been raised as of Monday afternoon on a GoFundMe for DeNegri, launched by Ashley Ryan of Bergen County.

"Anyone that has ever made a connection with Dominick knew he was an amazing person both inside & out," Ryan said.

"Every single day he graced us with his beautiful smile and his one of a kind sense of humor. He was an amazing musician who knew how to bring fun and joy to all around him. But most importantly he was an incredible coworker and friend."
