Born in Morristown and raised in Randolph, Petrella had been living in Jersey City since 2013 after garduating Magna Cum Laude with his BBA from Loyola University Maryland, his obituary says.
A certified public accountant (CPA), Petrella worked for Untracht Early, Florham Park, HedgeServ, N.Y., and most recently Hudson River Trading, N.Y.
Petrella was remembered for his sense of humor and positivity.
"We lost a tremendous son, brother and friend this weekend," his brother Steven wrote on Facebook
"An open-minded person who treated people like they should be treated, regardless of their differences. It's devastating he'll never get to live in a world where everyone shares those values."
"He always had a smile for everyone," Sharon Hughes wrote on his obituary.
Petrella is predeceased by his grandparents, William O. and Carmela Petrella.
He is survived by his parents William M. and Elise Petrella of Randolph; siblings Steven and Lynn; girlfriend Shayna Francois "Kennedy Grey" of Jersey City; grandparents James and Alba Logan of Morris Plains; and countless more family members, friends and colleagues.
Interment was private.
