The countdown to turning back the clocks is on, even as Washington debates whether Americans should keep switching.
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, Nov. 1, when clocks across most of the US move back to 1 a.m., according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
That means an extra hour for sleep, lighter mornings, and earlier evening darkness by the clock. The change shifts when daylight falls on our schedules; it does not create more sunlight.

Good Samaritans stopped to help a stranded driver in Central Jersey, only for police to discover the vehicle had been stolen and launch a search for the man behind the wheel, authorities said.
Officers responded to Route 18 south and Eggers Street around 2:43 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, on a report of a disabled vehicle, East Brunswick police said. Before officers arrived, Good Samaritans helped the driver move the vehicle to a safe location off the roadway, police said. When officers arrived, the driver immediately ran away, authorities said.

Several Northeast states are among the places with the most diversity in the US, according to a new study.
