UPDATE: Firefighters rescued a trapped worker after a foundation wall collapsed at an East Rutherford construction site on Saturday. The wall gave way at a renovation project for a new restaurant on the Union Avenue site of the former Railroad Cafe -- pinning the worker from the waist down -- around 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28. UPDATE: An East Rutherford man was sentenced to 55 years in state prison for brutally kidnapping, stabbing and strangling a female neighbor. Francis "Frank" Tattoli, 30, won't be eligible for parole for nearly 48 years for the Christmastime 2016 slaying of Mone’t Thomas, 25, in the Summer Street apartment building where both lived. Thomas, who was born in Teaneck, worked as a manager of group sales for the Holiday Inn in Secaucus. She lived in the building with her boyfriend and bulldog. A parolee accused of firing a gun at three people outside Mother’s Ale House in Wayne last month had help, authorities said. Ex-con Errol Heber, 36, of Passaic “was identified as an accomplice to the shooting,” Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a joint announcement Wednesday with Wayne Police Chief Jack McNiff and East Rutherford Police Chief Dennis M. Rivelli. The trio didn’t elaborate on Heber’s alleged role. Police: Car Thief Drives Wrong Way On Route 3
A car thief drove the wrong way on Route 3 before police caught him in Lyndhurst, authorities said. East Rutherford police broke off a pursuit when Christian Diaz, 34, Newark drove the Ford SUV west in the eastbound lanes of Route 3 just after midnight Saturday. Hearing their alert, Lyndhurst Sgt. Richard Jasinski began chasing the vehicle after Diaz drove the wrong way through the highway entrance, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said. Motorcyclist Killed In Meadowlands Crash
A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash near the Meadowlands in East Rutherford early Wednesday evening, responders said. The victim, 25, from West New York went down on the ramp from southbound Route 120 to eastbound Route 3 across from the American Dream shortly after 5 p.m., East Rutherford Deputy Police Chief Phillip Taormina said. Three lanes of Route 120 along with the ramp remained closed for several hours for clearing of the wreckage and the collection of evidence, the deputy chief said.
