Two-Time Felon, East Orange Resident Convicted Of Possessing Firearm

An East Orange man with two prior felony convictions was found guilty of unlawfully possessing a firearm on Thursday, Jan. 25, authorities said.

In May 2019, East Orange detectives were on patrol then they discovered a group of men trespassing on a property at South Munn Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. As detectives approached, Cedrick Hickman dropped a bag and told police he possessed a handgun, Stephens said.

The detectives took the handgun and arrested Hickman, Stephens said. Hickman was convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon following a three-day trial, Stephens said. He faces up to 10 years in state prison when he is sentenced in March.
