Video Shows Van Explosion That Caused Gridlock On Main Morris County Roadway Daily Voice has obtained footage of a van fire, including a minor explosion, that closed a Morris County intersection on Thursday, Dec. 5 (scroll for video). The incident occurred on Route 10 in Randolph near Denville, just past the Mount Pleasant Turnpike, and involved a painter’s van, according to Denville Police Capt. Scott Welsch. The van's driver had pulled over after noticing smoke and entered a nearby business to seek help, Welsch said. A passerby spotted the van in flames and called 911. The incident occurred on South Michigan Avenue, where crews from Car 2 and Engine 63 of the KFD, along with Police Chief Campanelli and Kenilworth officers, responded to secure the area. Officers were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway at midnight where the pedestrian had been struck by a 2004 Toyota Camry while trying to cross the highway, ERPD Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.

The truck overturned by Exit 13A of the New Jersey Turnpike near Newark Liberty International Airport and Routes 1 and 9 in Elizabeth, according to 511nj.  The left shoulder is blocked and delays are extending three miles from Kearny to Newark, 511nj said. Traffic cameras showed vehicles creeping along the highway as of press time.

Tractor Trailer Overturns On Route 78 In Springfield A tractor trailer overturned in a crash with a passenger car early  morning, Monday, April 8 on Route 78 in Springfield, police said. The Freightliner and Toyota passenger car were heading east when the tractor trailer struck the back of the Toyota and overturned near milepost 47.4 at 5 a.m., New Jersey State Police said. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital. There were no other injuries reported. The accident remains under investigation.

Truck Crash Jams Route 17 A driver escaped serious injury when a box truck crashed early Friday on Route 17 in Paramus. The driver got out under his own steam after the truck hit a pole and a tree, landing on its side on the northbound highway outside the Trader Joe's near the Midland Avenue exit shortly before 6:30 a.m. The right and center lanes were temporarily closed as a heavy duty wrecker righted and removed the truck.
