Five people were arrested after the Essex County Sherriff's Bureau of Narcotics conducted multiple investigations in Newark this month, authorities said.
Investigators honed in on Hill Street and Washington Street and South 10th Street and Clinton Avenue, resulting in the seizure of four weapons, 39 grams of heroin, 828 grams of cocaine and over 60 ecstasy pills, Essex County Sheriff Armando B. Fontoura said.

A 24-year-old murder suspect wanted in a corner store killing in Newark was captured in Kearny, authorities said.
Quadree Richardson, 24, is accused of fatally killing Rabel Ramos-Gomez, 46, of Belleville, while he was working at a corner store on the 200 block of South 10th Street Sunday, July 17, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said. Richardson was charged with first degree murder and two weapon offenses.

A 21-year-old Newark woman was shot and killed while protecting her friend in an incident of domestic violence, news reports say.
Wesley Jean-Marie, of Valley Stream, New York, has been charged in the shooting death of Leeana Cottle, 21, of Newark, late Tuesday, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara.
Cottle allegedly was shot at about 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of South 10th Street while attempting to shield her friend from 32-year-old Jean-Marie, RLS Media reports.

13 Shooting Suspects Arrested, 29 Firearms Recovered In Newark
Thirteen shooting suspects were arrested and 29 illegal weapons were recovered in the month in Newark, authorities said Friday.
The men were arrested for various incidents since Oct. 1, and the weapons were linked to incidents that occurred in the last two-week span, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
