Grandparent Scam: Here’s How Pair From PA, NY Stole $300,000 From Elderly Victims Across US
At least 50 elderly victims across the United States were conned out of more than $300,000 by a ring of grandparent scammers who included a Pennsylvania woman and New York City man who confessed in federal court.
Jacqueline Velazquez, 37, of Reading, and Daniel Duran, 33, of Queens played key roles in the phone and email-based scheme, Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said.

For 44 years, the remains of a pregnant teen girl found on a Pennsylvania riverbank have been referred to by investigators only as "Beth Doe."

A tambourine-shaking, arms-raising, former NYPD spokeswoman became the latest person charged criminally in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, thanks to yet another anonymous tipster, according to the FBI.
Sara Carpenter, 51, who left the force in 2004, surrendered to the FBI in Queens early Tuesday, federal authorities said.

Wayne police detectives tracked down and charged a Queens man for conning a resident out of $2,570 through a utility scam. Now they’re trying to find out whether he had any other local victims.
Welinton Cedano, 29, sent the township resident a bogus text that purported to be from PSE&G, Detective Capt. Dan Daly said.
Following prompts, the woman was connected with someone claiming to be a manager who convinced her that she owed the utility money, Daly said.
