Head-On Crash: Utility Pole Snapped, Transformer Lands In Truck And Driver's OK In Fair Lawn
A driver somehow escaped serious injury in Fair Lawn on Thursday when his box truck skimmed a tree, bowled over four street signs and slammed flush into a utility pole, snapping it clean in half. Not only did the upper section of the streetlight pole land on top of the truck in the collision on Lincoln Avenue near Loretto Avenue around 1:30 p.m. July 27. The transformer also fell through the roof into the cargo area (see photo above). 2,000 Residents Without Power In Union County
Nearly 2,000 residents were without power Tuesday afternoon, July 25 in one Union County town. The PSE&G outage map shows 1,100 customers were in the dark on one side of Scotch Plains, and just more than 700 on another, as of 3:15 p.m. One outage appeared to be stemming from two separate areas off of Lake Avenue, near the Clark border, and the other in a neighborhood off Westfield Road, between Coles Avenue and Lyde Place. Restoration time was 6 p.m.

Power Knocked Out, Road Temporarily Closed When Contractor's Truck Downs Pole In Ridgewood
A home contractor's truck toppled a utility pole, knocking out power to some customers and temporarily closing busy East Ridgewood Avenue between North Maple Avenue and North Irving Street. The Home Improvements driver out of Park Ridge escaped serious injury when the pole fell on East Ridgewood Avenue around 10 a.m. Monday, July 24. Route 17 Crash Downs Wires
A single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday night downed utility wires on Route 17 in Paramus. The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12. Only one lane was passable on the southbound side while the wreckage was removed and police investigated. An occupant was extricated, although word was that Injuries didn't appear serious. Four firefighters were hospitalized after battling an intense five-alarm blaze that destroyed a multi-family home amid blistering temperatures Wednesday afternoon in Passaic. Driver, 78, Hospitalized, Summonsed After Paramus Crash
A 78-year-old driver was hospitalized and received a summons after his SUV collided with another vehicle and slammed into a utility pole in Paramus on Sunday. A 10-year-old passenger in the Honda CR-V was treated for facial injuries at the scene of the 5:20 p.m. July 2 crash on Paramus Road across from Fairway Oaks Park. SUV Splits Utility Pole, Busy Paramus Intersection Closed Most Of Day
A driver escaped serious injury when an SUV split a utility pole at a busy intersection just off northbound Route 17 in Paramus. Midland Avenue between Sette Drive and From Road was reopened at 3 p.m. Friday, June 16, after PSE&G replaced the pole, police said. An overturned vehicle led to the apprehension of four 16-year-olds from Essex County for stealing a car on Wednesday, June 14, Summit Police said. At 4:11 p.m., Summit Police began to follow a 2019 Audi A5 that was reported stolen in Montclair. Firefighters Douse Rutherford Basement Blaze
Firefighters doused a smoky house blaze that began in the basement of a Rutherford home. No one was injured in the fire, which broke out in the two-story, two-family house on Springfield Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. Victim Critical After Electrical Explosion At Meadowlands Solid Waste Plant
An electrical explosion at a solid waste facility in North Arlington severely burned a worker on his face and side, authorities said. The 62-year-old victim from Paterson was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston following the mishap at the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission facility on Baler Boulevard shortly after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, Police Capt.
