Haledon Officer Shot While Conducting Drill At Passaic County Shooting Range
A Haledon police officer is recovering after an accidental shooting during a rifle course at the Passaic County shooting range this week, authorities said. The officer was conducting a drill during the week-long course when a round discharged into his leg on Wednesday, Sept. 10 around 12:45 p.m. at the range in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. The Officer was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center for treatment for injuries that were described as non-life threatening.

Two Mega Millions Tickets Sold In North Jersey Win Big
It was a fabulous Friday for two Mega Millions players in North Jersey. A ticket sold in Bergen County and a ticket sold in Passaic County matched four of the five numbers in the Mega Millions drawing held on Friday, Aug. 30, winning $10,000. The tickets were sold at 7-Eleven in New Milford and Market Street Shell in Paterson. The winning numbers were 10, 17, 20, 24, 54, and the gold Megaball was 8.

Justin Hoyt, Passaic County Native, Dies, 26
Passaic County native Justin Hoyt died on Tuesday, Aug. 27, his obituary on the Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home website says. He was 26 years old. A Woodland Park native, Justin also lived in Little Falls but had moved to California two years ago to bettering himself and "working with those suffering from addiction, helping others on their journey," his obituary says. Two West Nile Virus-Related Deaths Among Six New Cases Reported In New Jersey
New Jersey health officials are reporting an additional six cases of West Nile Virus including two deaths, and two presumptive viremic blood donor (PVD) cases in the state. The six new WNV cases are residents of Bergen, Camden, Cumberland, Hudson, Mercer, and Middlesex counties (one 50+, two 60+, one 70+, two 80+). A 39-year-old man was shot and killed overnight in Paterson, police said. Officers responding to a ShotSpotter activation around 1:35 a.m. found the man with a gunshot wound lying face down at Madison Avenue and 14th Avenue, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. New details have emerged in a serious wreck last June in Passaic County. Two major crashes closed two major highways early Monday, June 24 in Passaic County. The first crash happened when a motorcycle and commercial truck collided just before 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 46, Clifton police said. The motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries. All lanes were closed between Hazel Street and Paulson Avenue as of 9:40 a.m. Meanwhile, an overturned tractor trailer closed Route 80 in Paterson the eastbound ramp to Exit 58 just after 6:25 a.m., the NJDOT site says.
