Street Closures Announced For Newark North Ward Tree-Lighting Ceremony
A parade and tree lighting is scheduled in Newark's North Ward Friday, police said. The events, sponsored by North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., although streets will be closed down several hours before the festivities begin. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Verona and Summer avenues. The parade route will travel westbound on Verona Avenue to Mt. Prospect Avenue, turning left onto Mt. S. Plainfield Cancels Labor Day Parade, Explosive Devices Found Near Route
Officials in South Plainfield Monday have cancelled a Labor Day parade and other activities over what officials described only as a "security concern." Officials did not immediately provide any information about the nature of the threat. A large police presence was seen Monday in Spring Lake Park and the parade route was closed off, according to a published report.
