A helicopter was deployed to help find three fleeing armed carjackers in Newark on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 15, authorities said. At 8:45 p.m., Newark police patrolling the 400 block of West Market Street observed a black 2016 Range Rover that had previously been stolen in an armed carjacking in East Orange, Newark Public Safety Director Eugene Miranda said. A girl was taken into custody after police in New Jersey said she made a school shooting threat on social media "to see how people would react." Bridgeton police were made aware of the threat of a shooting at the Broad Street School on Thursday, Sept. 19, they said. "This threat was posted to Instagram and other social media applications," police said. "On the post there were many names listed as potential targets of the shooting." Juveniles Arrested After Causing Bloomfield High School Lockdown: Police
Two juveniles were arrested and charged after trespassing at Bloomfield High School on Wednesday, Sept. 11, causing a lockdown. Bloomfield High School was placed on lockdown after law enforcement was notified of two juveniles within the vicinity of the high school, Bloomfield police said in a release. The lockdown was lifted after officers cleared the building, police said. Detectives were able to positively identify the two juveniles who were not students or Bloomfield residents, police said. 17-Year-Old Busted With Illegal Handgun: Linden Police
A 17-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, July 5, after police in Linden discovered he was in possession of an illegal handgun, authorities said. The teenager was stopped at 6:30 p.m. near West Simpson Ave, Lt. Christopher Guenther said. An investigation led to the recovery of a loaded, defaced handgun with a high-capacity magazine, Guenther said. The teenager was charged as a juvenile with multiple weapons charges, including second-degree possession of a handgun. He was remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court appearance, Guenther said.

A 14-year-old boy in Jersey City was arrested and charged for his involvement in the fatal shooting of Tyshawn Smith, a 15-year-old Jersey City resident on Friday, June 9, authorities said. The teenager was charged as a juvenile with aggravated manslaughter and multiple weapons charges, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Authorities have released some details in a police-involved Newark shooting that injured a 15-year-old injured and a resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old, they said. North Jersey High School Placed On Lockdown After Student Shows Up With Gun: Police
A Union County high school was placed on lockdown when a student brought handgun to school Friday, March 4, authorities said. The Arthur L. Johnson High School student was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered, Clark police said. Members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to help secure the building.
