Inmates Convicted In Brutal Prison Beating: Essex County Prosecutors Two Essex County inmates were convicted of attempted murder for savagely beating another inmate with a microwave oven and other weapons in Sept. 2021, authorities announced Wednesday, June 14. Seven inmates attacked Jayshawn Boyd at the Essex County jail in Newark, beating him unconscious by punching him in the face and stomping on his head, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N.
